During 2024 AHC received notices of congressional directed spending from Senator Martin Heinrich and Representative Ben Ray Lujan to remodel and expand Amador’s Suite D (Annex). The present facility, which served as the original clinic site in 1991, is approximately 2048 sq ft and houses a team of six (6) staff working in Recovery Support Services (RSS). We see this new and improved drop-in facility as an "Opportunity Center," suggesting some sort of new beginning, second chance, or future potential related to recovery, rehabilitation or resiliency.
With these federal resources Amador will develop a more robust drop-in center that embraces the best of similar models that are found here in New Mexico and elsewhere as noted below. The proposed drop-in center will have the guiding priorities of harm reduction; social determinants/drivers of health; integration of medical, behavioral, and social services; and inter-agency/disciplinary collaboration. Construction should begin in Q1 CY 2025.
